The Acura MDX
is a consistent bestseller in the luxury-SUV game, and it’s not hard to see why. Although it doesn’t boast great off-road or trailer-towing chops, its luxurious interior, sleek styling, and surprising agility make it a great road-trip companion and family vehicle. With standard LED headlights, newly available active safety and convenience features, and an all-new nine-speed automatic transmission, the refreshed 2016 MDX will be better than ever, offering better performance, efficiency, and overall value than much of its competition.
Weighing in at just less than 4,400 pounds, the MDX is one of the lighter vehicles in its competitive set. That relative lack of heft pays dividends everywhere, as the MDX is fun to drive and efficient. Indeed, its 290hp, 267lb-ft 3.5L V-6 is capable of achieving nearly 30 mpg, while still providing excellent acceleration and passing power. Optional torque-vectoring Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) provides even greater agility and all-weather capability.
Acura’s traditional high-quality leather and technology-heavy interior leave little to be desired in terms of luxury features, although there is a slight learning curve to the infotainment system. However, after some familiarization, the MDX is a great daily driver for families, especially since it seats up to seven, two more than some of its competition.
