2001 Chicago Auto Show

The 2002 Outback Sport is based on the all-new 2002 Impreza Sport Wagon, but adds more power, safety technology, comfort, and versatility, plus a redesigned and upgraded interior with more standard equipment than before. A larger 2.5-liter/165-horse horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine borrowed from Outback and Forester models makes 166 lb-ft of torque, up from the previous 2.2-liter/142-horse engine. The 2002 Outback Sport features full-time all-wheel drive, and a four-wheel independent heavy-duty suspension, with MacPherson struts up front and redesigned dual-link struts in the rear. Dual airbags, four-channel four-sensor anti-lock brakes, and P205/55R16 tires complete the package. The new model can be found at Subaru dealerships in late March 2001.
