2001 Chicago Auto Show
First shown at the Detroit Auto Show, the new Sportsman concept is designed to take the angler out into the wilderness for a "back to nature" outdoor experience. Based on the redesigned 2002 Ford Explorer platform, the Sportsman concept showcases Ford's new AdvanceTrac interactive vehicle dynamics for sophisticated electronic braking and traction control with electronic stability control for improved driver confidence and handling. It also debuts a sophisticated new all-aluminum V-8 engine that increases horsepower to 240, 25 more than the Explorer's previous V-8.
