Ford's latest iteration of the trendy Focus sports a powered-up version of the DOHC, 16-valve Zetec engine capable of producing 170 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque (up from the 2.0-liter/130-hp engine in the Focus ZX3). Modifications incude a dual-stage intake manifold, variable cam timing on the intake camshaft, and an under-body catalyst system. The SVT Focus is Ford's first use of a dual-mass flywheel and six-speed manual tranny on a front-wheel-drive product in North America. Additional features include four-wheel disc brakes with ABS, special suspension tuning, 17-inch wheels and tires, air conditioning, AM/FM/CD sound system, remote keyless entry, and passive anti-theft system. While pricing has not been finalized, Ford has suggested the base price will be around $18,000.
