2001 Detroit Auto Show

The first all-new Land Rover since 1994 will be launched in North America at the end of this year. The five-door Freelander will be powered by Land Rover's KV6 engine, a 2.5-liter, 24-valve DOHC producing 175 horsepower and be mated to a five-speed Steptronic auto or five-speed manual shifter. The AWD SUV will also feature four-wheel electonic Traction Control (4ETC), Hill Descent Control (HDC), and all-terrain ABS. The molten orange Freelander Kalahari Concept vehicle (shown) has added a special a-frame nudge bar, heavy-duty skidplate and towing receiver, winch, roof-mounted light bar with spot- and foglights, as well as many other active-use items.
