2001 Detroit Auto Show

Displayed downstairs near the similarly named Cunningham C7 was the first production Saleen S7, emoting supercar elitism with its lava-hot orange paint, gull-wing doors, and abundant shark gills. A Ford-based, 7.0-liter V-8 engine delivers 550 horsepower, 520 lb-ft. of torque, routed to the rear wheels through a six-speed transaxle. Three inches lower and 650 pounds lighter than a Lamborghini Diablo, the S7 promises world-class performance. In fact, Saleen claims a 200 mph top speed and 0-60 mph under four seconds for the race-trimmed S7R.
