2001 Detroit Auto Show

After years of being teased by the red-hot, rally-bred Subaru WRX model in Japan, American performance enthusiasts will finally be able to buy a turbocharged Impreza. Though not quite as powerful as the overseas legend, the U.S.-market sedan and wagon will still offer extreme performance in an all-wheel-drive package. The 227-horse four-cylinder is matched with a five-speed manual or four-speed auto transmission, sport-tuned suspension, 16-wheels, aggressive styling, and full roster of creature comforts.
