2001 Frankfurt Motor Show

MG has introduced a new high-performance model to its MG sport line, the X80 sport coupe. Destined to compete with such marques as the Porsche 911, Maserati 3200 GT, and Jaguar XK8, the luxury four-seat sportster is built on an aluminum body mounted to a steel box section chassis evolved from the Qvale Mangusta. It will be powered by a selection of 4.6-liter V-8 engines making from 260 to 385 horsepower with either manual or automatic transmission, and will offer a full complement of luxo goodies including ABS, in-car entertainment system, and Electronic Traction Control. The MG X80 will be launched in Europe in summer 2002 with pricing set to begin under $73,500, and will be followed by a roadster in 2003.
