2001 Frankfurt Motor Show

Packaged for enjoyment, Ford claims its new Fiesta concentrates on what matters most to Europe's small-car customers: space, style, safety, and value. The five-door, five-passenger Fiesta will be the first in a range of four all-new small vehicles to be introduced by Ford over the next 18 months. Features include standard dual-stage "smart" front airbags with optional inflatable side curtains, 14-inch wheels and tires, hydraulic front disc and rear drum brakes with ABS, and three new powertrains including a 79-hp 16-valve 1.4-litre Duratec; a friction-fighting new value engine, the 1.3-litre Duratec 8V (in 57- or 67-hp variants) for improved gas mileage; and a 68-hp 1.4-litre Duratorq TDCi diesel engine. On sale early in 2002, Fiesta will be manufactured at Ford's Cologne, Germany, small-car assembly plant and in a flexible production facility in Valencia, Spain.
