How would you enhance the M3's balanced performance? Shed pounds. BMW openly flirts with this concept on the M3 CSL, a silver tease that was first shown in Frankfurt. The power-to-weight ratio is enhanced through extensive use of carbon fiber. The pricey composite is used to replace the front air dam, doors, decklid, mirror housings, roof, door linings, center console, twin racing-style bucket seats, and interior trim. Even more extensive is the special lightened steel unibody, thin rear glass, magnesium dash structure, and honeycomb sandwich plate used in flooring surfaces. Of course, this extensively enhanced vehicle is strictly a concept. However, the previous E36 M3 offered an M3 Light model late in its production run. Don't be surprised to see a Lightweight return.
