2001 Tokyo Motor Show

Nissan stole the show with the one-two punch of the production Z car and the musclebound Skyline GT-R. Arguably the Japanese Corvette, the potent Skyline GT-R line has represented extreme performance for generations. Nissan has offered a first look at the design direction for the next coupe, differing dramatically from the Skyline sedan, which will be offered in the U.S. as the Infiniti G35. Insiders said to look at this GT-R concept like the first Z concept; it shows the design language and general scheme, but expect refinements before introduction. This is the first left-hand-drive Skyline Nissan has built, clearly signaling interest in exporting for the first time. The volume increase North America can offer may prove critical to the business case for building this high-performance, limited-production car.
