BMW enters the luxury compact SUV market with the all-new X3, little brother to X5. Termed a Sport Activity Vehicle, the X3 has the same responsiveness that is readily identifiable with BMW. Off-pavement adventures are aided by a new xDrive all-wheel-drive system that quickly distributes power to the wheels with traction. To further enhance traction, the X3 is fitted with Dynamic Stability Control. Other notable features include adaptive headlights, two-piece panorama roof, and tire-pressure monitor. It is expected that the 3 Series wagon will not return to America with the next generation, leaving the X3 to fill its role in this SUV-hungry market.
