Amid new vehicle launches, BMW showed off the new 5 Series sedan fitted with the 4.4-liter V-8 engine shared with the 745i. This engine boasts almost 50 more horsepower than the lauded previous-generation 540i. Shifted manually, the new 545i can run 0-60 mph in 5.8 seconds. And despite more power from a larger car, the 2004 545i is more fuel-efficient than the much-loved previous-generation 540i. Naturally, the suspension, wheels/tires, and brakes have all been upgraded to complement the powertrain. Likewise, the interior is better dressed and more fully equipped than that found in six-cylinder models. BMW spotters will note the chromed vertical grille slats and round tailpipes are the exterior telltales for the 545i, besides the oft-removed badging.
