Mini expands its range with addition of a fuel-efficient diesel engine to the entry-level One model. The 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine produces 75 horsepower and 133 lb-ft of torque. The real powerful number here is the fuel economy, measured at 58.9 mpg during a mixed duty (city and highway) cycle. A six-speed manual transmission aids in eking a 0-60 mph time in a lorry-like 13.8 seconds. The One D is can be distinguished from the gasoline-engine motivated One by its larger front air intakes, rear skirt that conceals the exhaust pipe, S side sills, and obligatory badging. The One D will go on sale this summer in Europe, with no plans announced for offering Stateside.
