2004 Detroit Auto Show
Chevy's Nomad concept is not a sedan, wagon, SUV or any other categorizable vehicle, but GM says it simultaneously conveys presence and practicality. The Nomad team created a forward-thinking and forward-looking design that evokes the spirit of the 1954 Chevy Nomad concept vehicle, including its round headlamps mounted on gently curving fenders, a trademark Corvette grille, and a forward-sloping B-pillar. Designed in Great Britain with the help of renowned Italian coachbuilder Pininfarina, Nomad is built on GM's new rear-wheel-drive Kappa architecture, which is also the foundation for the Pontiac Solstice production model and Saturn Curve concept. A turbocharged Ecotec 2.2-liter/250-hp four-cylinder engine powers the Nomad, which also features a new Hydra-Matic 5L40-E electronically controlled five-speed automatic transmission with finger-operated tap shifting. The new Nomad features clever details to accommodate large, bulky items, such as a removable rear roof panel, a folding tailgate, and a sliding cargo floor that extends over the folded tailgate so items placed on the load floor can be easily pushed into the cargo area.

I don't like pretentious advertising or promotion. There's enough of it in politics to fill my cup to overflowing without the touchy-feely crowd encroaching on my choice of vehicle. more
