For the first time, Ferrari has selected an American auto show for the international unveiling of an all-new model. The occasion marks the 50th anniversary of the arrival of the first Ferrari GT in North America, which continues to be the biggest market for the Prancing Horse. Each Ferrari sold in the United States this year will feature a plaque celebrating the anniversary. Designed by Pininfarina, the 612 has been named in honor of Sergio Scaglietti, the coachbuilder who created some of Maranello's most noteworthy cars for founder Enzo. The all-aluminum, 2+2 coupe draws its numerical name from the nearly six-liter V-12 engine. This lightweight engine produces 540 horsepower -- 100-hp more than the 456M. Matched with a six-speed manual gearbox or new-generation clutchless manual (shifted by F1-type paddle triggers), the engine propels the sleek Italian from 0-60 mph in 4.2 seconds and achieves a 195-mph top speed.
