2004 Detroit Auto Show

Flanked by new models, Mazda presented the MX-Micro Sport concept to explore American interest in an upcoming 2005 model planned for overseas markets. The MX-Micro Sport is 19.9 inches shorter than the Mazda 3 wagon, yet it is nearly as wide and 3.3 inches taller. Consequently, the MX-Micro Sport provides a surprisingly workable interior for four passengers despite its length. The luggage compartment comes equipped with a detachable partition for flexible stowage arrangements, allowing below-floor storage or cargo cover. The MX-Micro Sport concept features a MacPherson-type front suspension and a torsion beam rear suspension tuned to provide the lively driving response. Couple with a 2.0-liter/148-hp four-cylinder engine, the mechanicals promise quite an entertaining ride. Is America ready the MX-Micro? You decide. Mazda is listening.
