2004 Detroit Auto Show

A scowly visage combines with graceful lines and buttery smooth "Ballistic Yellow" paint to create Hyundai's HCD8 Sports Tourer concept, the first vehicle to emerge from the Hyundai Kia Design and Technical Center in Irvine, California. Designed to appeal to youthful minded professionals who want a great-looking, high-performance sports coupe, the HCD8 explores an automotive segment some say is in decline, using Hyundai's entire portfolio -- the face of the Elantra, the grace of the Sonata, and the stance of the Tiburon -- as inspiration. At the heart of the HCD8 is a supercharged 2.7-liter V-6 engine mated to a six-speed manual transaxle for performance to match its styling. An adjustable air suspension allows the pilot to adjust ride height a total of four inches, depending on driving needs.
