2004 Detroit Auto Show

Pontiac introduced the production version of the G6 sport sedan, a clean-body replacement for the Grand Am. The G6 is a significant model, as it represents the future of the brand taking it further than the sporty Grand Prix into the realm of Euro-inspired manners. Built on GM's Epsilon architecture, the G6 features a four-wheel sport-tuned independent suspension with MacPherson struts up and four-link independent rear configuration. Aiding the chassis is variable-assist electric power steering, full-function traction control, and a range of 16-, 17-, and 18-inch performance wheels and tires. Motivation comes from a 170-horsepower HO 2.4-liter Ecotec four-cylinder, 200-horsepower 3.5-liter V-6, and 240-horsepower HO 3.9-liter V-6. Manual and automatic transmissions will be offered, with the GT model featuring four-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode and the 3.9L engine available with a six-speed manual. Beyond entertaining dynamics, the G6 will offer a four-glass panoramic room, side and head airbags, and remote start among its cool attributes. Look for a 2+2 sports coupe and a convertible to join the model range after the sedan goes on sale in fall 2004.
