2004 Chicago Auto Show

Based on the new rear-drive Kappa architecture, this concept evokes the spirit of the 1954 Chevy Nomad concept vehicle, including its round headlamps mounted on gently curving fenders, a trademark Corvette grille, and a forward-sloping B-pillar. It also reminds of the '90s concept of the same name and even color. This concept rides on a full independent suspension hung from a rock-solid chassis made of hydroformed frame rails. A four-seater, the Nomad rides on a 107-inch wheelbase, two inches longer than other Kappa concepts on the circuit. A turbocharged Ecotec 2.2-liter/250-hp four-cylinder engine powers the Nomad, which also features a new Hydra-Matic 5L40-E electronically controlled five-speed automatic transmission with finger-operated tap shifting. The wee wagon utility is maximized by a removable rear roof panel, a folding tailgate, and a sliding cargo floor that extends over the folded tailgate so items placed on the load floor can be easily pushed into the cargo area.
