2004 Geneva Motor Show
Europeans are getting a taste of Korean value as Kia continues its continental expansion using the occasion of the Geneva show to announce a new manufacturing facility in Eastern Europe -- Slovakia to be exact. With the capability to build up to 200,000 units annually, it will position Kia to sell up to 500,000 units a year in Europe by the end of the decade. One of the models it could build in that facility is the new Cerato, a C-segment family car that will be offered with two gasoline and two new common-rail diesel engines (1.5-liter/100 hp and 2.0-liter/110 hp), Kia's first such powerplants. While small by US standards, a version of the Cerato could serve as an entry-level vehicle in the North American market. Kia also showed a Cerato Green design study, an even more environmentally friendly concept version built by French coachbuilder Groupe Henri Heuliez SA in Cerizay.
