2004 Geneva Motor Show

It's important to keep an open mind about the unusual concepts often presented at auto shows, case in point, Suzuki's S-Ride tandem two-seater. A lightweight compact car inspired from the basic layout of motorcycles, its aluminum outer shell holds two seats arranged in a tandem layout; the passenger rides in back with his legs stretched out astride the driver's, much like when driving a cycle or scooter. Entry is via a clear roof enclosure that lifts out of the way for step-in access. (Female passengers will want to avoid wearing short skirts...) Its engine is located amidships, towards the rear. Calling it "an active commuting car as an urban transportation tool," the S-Ride concept is targeted to young people and explores next-generation video telematics, with a "lover's sync" system that navigates the vehicle to the location of the people the driver is conversing with, as well real-time access to various town information. Blending the fun of bikes with the convenience of autos, Suzuki says its S-Ride points the way to a new direction for mini-vehicles.
