Mazda first presented the MX-Micro Sport concept at the 2004 Detroit Auto Show to explore American interest in a 2005 model destined for "key automotive markets" during calendar year 2004. The light and nimble MX-Micro Sport five-door concept is about 20 inches shorter than the Mazda3 wagon, yet it is nearly as wide and 3.3 inches taller. Consequently, the MX-Micro Sport provides a surprisingly workable interior for four passengers despite its length. The luggage compartment comes equipped with a detachable partition for flexible stowage arrangements, allowing below-floor storage or cargo cover. The MX-Micro Sport concept features a MacPherson-type front suspension and a torsion beam rear suspension tuned to provide the lively driving response. Couple that with a 2.0-liter/148-hp four-cylinder engine, and the mechanicals promise quite an entertaining ride. Is America ready the MX-Micro? You decide. Mazda is listening.
