2005 Chicago Auto Show Coverage

A unique part of the Mercedes-Benz display was the opportunity to watch an AMG master engine builder at work. The AMG factory in Germany uses a "one-man, one-engine" approach, where a single person has complete responsibility for the hand assembly of an engine from start to finish. In the factory, each engine builder assembles two or three engines per day, and when they're done, a signature plate from that builder goes right on the engine. We're told the engines completed at the Chicago Auto Show will go back to Germany where they will be installed in the initial S65s built for test fleets used by journalists to evaluate. We're looking forward to that! Click to watch the Mercedes-Benz video.
