2013 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class
The big news for the GL line is new engines across-the-line. The naturally-aspirated 4.7 and 5.5-liter V-8s of the GL450 and GL550 models are replaced with two versions of Mercedes' new 4.7-liter twin-turbo direct-injected V-8. The engine produces 362 hp and 406 lb-ft in the GL450, and 429 hp and 516 lb-ft in the GL550. The GL350 Bluetec 3.0-liter turbodiesel V-6 gets a 30 hp bump to 240 hp and an 55 lb-ft increase in torque to 455 lb-ft.
As was the case with the 2012 models, the GL bears a strong resemblance to its little brother GLK, which also received a styling update for 2013. And if you're still a traditionalist that believes a real SUV should have low range, Mercedes has you covered with an optional off-road package that includes a two-speed transfer case and up to 12 inches of ground clearance available on the GL450 and GL550.
