Featuring new styling for 2015, the Chevrolet Silverado
HD is a thoroughly updated version of its former self. Chevrolet has been splitting updates on its big trucks lately, refreshing frames and powertrains, then waiting a few years to update styling, and vice versa. As such, the 2015 Silverado HD still features many technical details of its predecessors.
Chief among these is its Duramax diesel V-8, which produces 397 hp and 765 lb-ft of torque, good for a maximum towing capacity of 23,200 pounds. While that’s a staggering amount of power and capability in and of itself, compared to other HD trucks, it’s behind the curve. Chevrolet argues that most truck owners don’t actually tow anything that’s even close to the maximum trailer rating and that for most owners, the Duramax does more than its fair share of work. That may be true, but in bar arguments, numbers count for bragging rights.
However, those who choose the Silverado HD get the same benefits over the competition as those who choose the Silverado 1500. Chiefly, a very nice, quiet interior comes standard on even base models, and Silverados are available with a wide variety of features like 4G LTE Wi-Fi and satellite radio. For a work truck that also serves as a family car and toy hauler, it’s hard to beat the comfortable Silverado HD.
