Now in its 80th year of production—and 12th generation—the ’15 Chevrolet Suburban is all-new for 2015. Still retaining its body-on-frame architecture, the Suburban now shares less in common with the Silverado than ever before. Under the hood is a new 5.3L EcoTec3 V-8 engine, which churns out 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. Rear drive is standard, while four-wheel drive is an option. A six-speed automatic transmission is found in all models. Cylinder deactivation, electronic throttle control, and electric power steering have all been added to help increase efficiency.
Also for 2015, the Suburban gains new fold-flat second- and third-row seats. This helps to better utilize the cargo carrying capacity. Second-row passengers gain 2 inches of legroom, which helps with ingress and egress.
Helping to secure the vehicle are new window and glass break sensors, along with vertical-movement and interior-movement sensors aimed at preventing theft. Safety technology includes forward collision alert, lane departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and the Cadillac XTS’ vibrating Safety Alert Seat.
