Under Construction Mini Trucks - Construction Zone - August 2003

Welcome to yet another primered appearance of The Construction Zone. We hope that by seeing more unfinished rides in the raw you'll come up with some new ideas of your own to complete the ride that's collecting cobwebs in your garage. We can definitely use your help to get the word out that every show-stopper was once a primer and guidecoat-covered beast with mods galore. If you have a ride that's not quite done but makes you want to shave, suicide, or chop something every month, then peep out the photos we use here for The Zone and snap some of your own. Send them to us here at Mini Truckin'. You may find yourself among the few, the proud, the unpainted. We wish you the best of luck and ingenuity until your own ride is painted and taking Best Of trophies. Now sit back and check out the newest inductees into The Construction Zone.
OWNER'S NAME: Richard Hopkins
YEAR & MAKE: '98 {{{Toyota Tacoma}}} XtraCab
LOCATION: Hawriver, North Carolina
Photo 5/9   |   1998 Toyota Tacoma left Side View
Wheels: 18x8-inch Alba Stingers with 215/35R18 Nitto tires.Suspension: Richard's Taco' sports one clean setup. A combination of 2,500-pound 'bags up front and 2,600-pound 'bags in the rear allow for plenty of movement. Backing up the 'bags is a tubular bridge that supports the notch, a chrome air tank, a reversed four-link, two compressors, Parker 3/8-inch valves, and hard lines throughout. Modifications: Smooth and clean is the theme. A Toyota 4WD bumper, valance, and grille were added up front. The 3-inch cowl-induction hood and shaved corners round out the front-end mods. Out back, you'll see the shaved antenna, door handles, taillights, and tailgate handle. A pair of custom-built LEDs replaced the stock taillights. Interior: Stock for now. Project Notes: Big plans are still in the works for this Tacoma in the way of a body drop, suicide doors, even more shaving, lots of chrome, and, finally, a wicked paintjob! Completion Date: Summer, 2003
OWNER'S NAME: Josh Showenwald
YEAR & MAKE: ’82 Chevy S-10 longbed
LOCATION: Thousand Oaks, California
Photo 9/9   |   1982 Chevy S10 Longbed front Left View
Wheels: 18x7-inch BCoddington Blaster wheels.Suspension: Airbags at all four corners, tubular notch, chrome four-link, lowered shocks, tubs in the back, and a pile of scrap parts from under the hood.Mods: The obvious mod at first glance is the 4-inch body drop, but there's more to this truck. The shaved doors, wiper cowl, taillights (replaced with Cadillac lights), mirrors, corner lights, gas door, tailgate area, and bodyline under the back window have all been worked smooth. Under the hood, the firewall has been worked on to allow the 18s to tuck deeply. The inside of the bed has also been smoothed and accented with some nice lines. The bed is home to the new gas filler and chrome cap. Interior: Josh's interior is very clean with a Momo steering wheel, a polished shifter, some tweed, and MIC air controls. Project Notes: Josh would like to thank Jody Hall of the Drop Shop in Pikesville, Kentucky, for performing all the work on his Toyota. Josh also says that there's more to come, and we look forward to seeing it. Completion Date: "Never! A truck is never done."
