1998 Chevrolet S10 - DPN Debt
The Big Payoff
Michael Hall, the proud owner of this smooth red S-10, knows firsthand what it means to be deep in debt. His truck was originally purchased in October 1992 for $4,200. Over the years, he's swiped his debit and credit cards to the tune of $16,500 to build this trophy winning truck. The purpose of the buildup began as most projects do: Michael wanted a truck he could drag, cruise, show, and have fun with. Sometime after he bought it, the interest on his credit cards must have caught up with him. But fear not, he's doing just fine.
For Michael's first endeavor, he enlisted Conceptual Imagez to lay the frame to the floor by installing Belltech drop spindles up front in combination with Firestone airbags. With the front end laid just right, he turned his attention to the rear of the truck. A custom four-link setup paired with Firestone airbags and a C-notch put the rear of the truck deep into the weeds. Then Terry Cummings Racing Engines gave the four-cylinder engine a little get up and go by porting, polishing, and deburring the heads and block and installing a Competition Cams camshaft.
Next, the body of the truck was revamped with a Street Beat ragtop to let in the sun, and a Checkmate bed cover was added to close off the open-bed area. Before he started doing real bodywork to the truck, Michael also added an AIM Industries grille shell. He soon found himself ready to do the majority of the work that would serve to give his truck its identity. Michael began by shaving the truck's body seams, the cowl panel, door handles, bumper bolts, and the gas door, and he molded the tailgate and steel roll pan.
After his debt-machine was as smooth as a newborn's butt, Michael had T.J. William's Body Shop spray his baby down with DuPont Brilliant Red, with a pint of Red Pearl mixed in for added bling. Interiors by Ed wrapped the '98 S-10 seats and the entire dash in gray tweed and leather.
Keep in mind that Michael's truck has been a work in progress for about 10 years. When you add up all that he's done to the truck over time, his license plate "DPN DEBT" stands as a firm reminder to each and every one of us that nothing is ever free.
