Custom Ford F-150 - The Wild In Side
This Georgia F-150 Tosses Aside First Impressions
At first glance, Joey Booth's super-clean F-150, from Oakfield, Georgia, strikes its low bulldog stance with such smooth uninterrupted lines that it is easy to pass it over without further inspection. But, not stopping to take a look would rob you of seeing the level of craftsmanship that went into this buildup. It is not often we see '97-'03 regular cab F-150s tucking rim and looking so good. Joey wanted to build a truck that would promote his Tune Town Audio Store and grab attention from showgoers. So, in July 2001, he bought the F-150 and went to work for the next year and a half.
To get the look just right, Fro Daddy Customs of Albany, Georgia, C-notched the frame and suspended the F-150 with Firestone airbags, which can lower his truck's belly to within a hair of the gravel. Genx Fusion 22x9-inch rims are surrounded in Sumitomo's finest P265/35R22 meats, filling up the front wheelwells, while a pair of 24x10-inch Genx wheels mount up to a 2-1/2-inch-narrower Ford rear axle, wrapped in LT305/35R24 Kumho rubberbands. FBI provided the four-linked rear suspension. The stock V-6 was retained, and an Optima Red Top battery was put in place of the factory piece.
Chrome APC mirrors added a touch of flash and complemented the Street Scene grille shell and APC headlights. Shane Pardon of Sylvester, Georgia, shaved everything from the door handles to the taillights for the smoothest of appearances, and if you look closely, you might notice the subtle PPG Gold Pearl applied over the factory Toreador Red paint.
The real excitement starts with the opening of the doors. Thanks to Albany Auto Trim in Albany, Georgia, the theme of the interior is clearly wild, with leather and leopard print covering most of the surfaces that haven't been smoothed and painted.
Joey's shop, Tune Town Car Audio of Albany, Georgia, went to town with a DE HP 6500 head unit backed up by a Planet Audio five-channel amp. Between the seats sits the Audiobahn 12-inch subwoofer in a custom center console which also houses the Pioneer head unit, since a TV now resides where the original head unit was placed. A Power Acoustik DVD player with a massive screen sits in place of the passenger airbag, allowing the passenger to enjoy movies on those long road trips to various show.
A lot of work went in to Joey's prized Blue Oval, and he credits his wife Kelly, his kids, and his family, along with his club Xtreme Lowz, for all of the help and patience to make this truck one of the cleanest F-150s around. Joey's pavement-pounding project can be admired in person at the shows he enjoys attending, such as Xtreme Bash, Showfest, NOPI Nats, or the Spring Fling. Just make sure you ask him to pop those doors for you.
