Chevy Tahoe - Executive Sweet - Chevy Tahoe Special Section
Subtle Style, Supercharged Power, And Bleeding-Edge Electronics
When the project started, it was just going to be a mild custom restyle. But as owner Brock Weld says, "My need for more power and speed consumed the project." It's funny how this always happens to sport truck enthusiasts. Needless to say, the focus of the project changed. Now the mission statement was to build a race-inspired extreme SUV with the performance and presence worthy of the executive suite.
Weld commissioned The Custom Truck Shop in San Dimas, California, to install the Precision Design grille inserts, fit the Street Scene body kit, and add front and rear bumper covers, before laying on the black paint. Louie at The Custom Truck Shop had to work overtime to give the body kit that factory-installed look. But it's attention to the smallest details that add up to make a truck special. A lot of the work in fitting body kits is getting the lines and fit right, and when you install oversized wheels and tires, such as 22-inch Weld Evo and Toyo rubber, you sometimes have to work around body-interference issues. If the crew had that challenge, it met it. The wheels look great on this truck.
With the exterior restyling accomplished, the next step was to send it over to Sanderson Ford in Glendale, Arizona, for the complete executive mobile entertainment package. The Kenwood 911DVD-headed system features a pair of 7-inch headrest-mounted screens. The company also made provisions to mount Brock's PDA, but other than that, the interior was left stock.
Next on the agenda were the power mods. After a little shopping around, Brock decided the best option was to install an intercooled Radix MagnaCharger system. However, once he got his foot into the supercharger, despite how impressive the power gains were, he still needed more. So how do you improve an intercooled supercharged system? Easy: You go back to the basics and reduce the airflow restrictions in the system. A Volant intake and a set of Gibson headers and exhaust really let the supercharger breathe.
You gotta love it when a plan or a project truck comes together as well as this one. The increased performance of this package continues to impress its owner. How can you not be impressed by a practical daily driver with a sophisticated exterior that will, according to the owner, top out at 142 mph?
