2005 Nissan Ttitan XE Crew Cab - A Truck For All Seasons
Leer's Titanic Show Stopper
When you have as big a selection of aftermarket accessories for the pickup and SUV market as Leer, you're going to need a titanic truck to show off the goods. Leer got its hands on one of Nissan's pre-production fullsize pickups, a Titan XE Crew Cab, and transformed it into an edifice of artifice. Compared to the cornucopia of products added to the truck, it took Nacho Carillo a relatively puny two months to complete the project, resulting in a utopia of upgrades.
At first glance, Leer's Titan resembles an SUV more than a truck, thanks to Leer's 100R fiberglass truck cap on the bed and a well-integrated red, black, and gray DuPont paintjob by Diamond Body Shop in El Monte, California. That cap is part of the Leer Special Edition Browning/In Fisherman Cap package, which turns the truck bed into an all-season, adventure-ready, and dry place to sleep and store your gear. It includes a Yakima Rail Rider system, locking cargo rack with fairing, built-in lockable storage, a headliner, recessed and fold-down clothes hangar, two interior dome lights, Browning/Leer fleece vest, Browning Signature gear bag, 14mm rechargeable ballistic flashlight, and other features. Stored in the Line-X-lined bed are Coleman camping goodies, a 42-quart ARB portable freezer/fridge, and handy handheld ARB adventure light - not that they necessarily need that liner since the truck features a cool IFW bedslide that slides out like a drawer from a dresser to gain access to cargo, without having to crawl into the truck bed. Atop that Rail Rider system is a Yakima Platinum Pro 18 storage box for skis, snowboards, snowshoes, and the like. A Four-Bike swing-away hitch mount carrier and hull risers for the Dagger kayak round out the exterior cargo fittings.
ARB 4x4 Accessories' IPF high-performance driving lights mount on the Westin Bull Guard 3-inch steel tube bar in front of the Precision billet grille. Westin Sport Side tubes assist ingress and egress. A Go Rhino! chrome hitch step gives a leg up while accessing cargo or hopping up and down as you try to lock in that ball when hooking a trailer to the Draw-Tite Class III Max-E-Loader receiver hitch.
Inside the Titan are refinements that compensate for the pickup's mundane factory appointments. Katzkin leather seats inject eye-popping red into the interior. A dash of mods such as a carbon-fiber custom dash from Superior Dash and Dash Designs accessories make for a dashing dashboard. Husky Liners floor mats shield the carpet from tracked-in turf by white-knuckling the carpet and wielding heavy-duty 'tude. And, dude, check out the tunes generated by Audiovox's Prestige P-956 AM/FM/CD head unit and PST65 6.5-inch and PST693 6x9-inch Mobile Theater Series speakers and PS2401 4.5-inch two-way speakers. Providing visual appeal is a Mobile Theater DCD/CD player, 9-inch overhead LCD/DVD all-in-one, two 8-inch monitors, and Sirius satellite radio. Telling Nacho where to go is an Audiovox High-Speed DVD-ROM Information Delivery System (navigation), a 4-inch rearview mirror LCD monitor linked to a rearview camera. There is also a hands-free kit for a cell phone. For security, this setup is protected by the Informer Series two-way remote start and security system.
Beefing up the Titan's V-8 powerplant are JBA Cat4ward headers and a JBA exhaust, JET chips, and a True Flow air filter system for a peak hp of 365. Peek beneath the truck to spy a Skyjacker suspension lift kit and 18-inch Panther chrome wheels, which is wrapped in Nitto 33-1/2-inch-tall All-Terrain Grapplers.
Nacho wanted to create the ultimate, stylish "truck of all seasons," something that would embarrass a guy with all the attention he'd get in the Home Depot parking lot. It's the automotive equivalent of riding on the shoulders of the Jolly Green Giant to the supermarket, a confidence-bursting expedition that would make other shoppers go green with envy.
