Tom McWeeney's Body-Dropped Rod
It's pretty safe to say that personality determines style, especially in our sport. Our trucks are a reflection of us, whether they are horsepower-driven, 'bagged and body-dropped, or just outfitted with items that make the daily commute easier. For Tom McWeeney, his '96 S-10 is a direct reflection of his custom-rodder background and his appreciation of all things beautiful, especially blonde bombshells by the name of Jenna.
To set the truck flat on the ground, Art and Jeremy at GO-EZ in Placentia, California, replaced the factory suspension with 'bags and 2-inch DJM drop spindles up front and a KP Components six-link in the rear. To finish it up, they gave it a 3-inch body drop and slapped on a set of 18- and 20-inch Colorado Custom billets wrapped in 225/35 Nitto 555 rubber.
Next on the list was to give the truck a hot-rod look and feel. Jay Larossa of Sport Truck Specialties in Long Beach shaved the door handles, gas door, and third brake light, and molded the bed to the cab, creating a seamless flow. Steve Deman then sprayed a House of Kolor's Planet Green base and added White with Abalone flaked scallops on the hood, side, and tailgate.
The green continues to flow through the cab onto the dash, door panels, and rear cab wall. Blake Weaver brought out his airbrush and created pinup-style artwork of Jenna Jameson, who, for those living under a rock, is the hottest temptress to ever work the industry. The bench seat was scabbed out of a '94 Toyota and covered using white Enduratex vinyl with tuck-and-roll stitching. To complete the hot-rod look, a '56 Chevy steering wheel was adapted to the column.
It's no secret that many of the current trends are turning toward the old-school styling. Introducing Caddy taillights has been the norm for years, but now people are beginning to bring other parts into the mix - full-metal dashes, grilles, and bumpers - all of which tie us back into our custom roots.
