2003 Hummer H2 - Sykness
Precision Grilles' H2 Has A License To ILL
It's no surprise that some accessory makers might take an acceso-centric approach to a project vehicle, resulting in something that looks like the crown jewels were just stuck onto a baseball cap. But Precision Design & Manufacturing didn't fall into that trap as it struck out to design a vehicle that would hawk its Precision Grilles brand. No grilles-on-wheels here, but a well-integrated buildup that hawks the Precision Grilles brand and results in one "SYK H2."
Jeff Mersey of Merzees in Santa Fe Springs, California, slashed the Hummer with Alsa paints to reveal the marbled-purple, specter-green attitude shimmering beneath its midnight-black body. Expressions of Precision Grilles' bread-and-butter dot Merzees' handiwork. The brand's ABS grille shell with horizontal inserts makes a straightforward statement on such an imposing vehicle. Also from PG is the front ABS bumper cover, paintable side vents with billet inserts, paintable hood box with billet insert, and chrome fuel door. Iron cross Grippin door handles scream "Don't Touch!" Crystal Eyes' LED brake lights and Precision Grilles' stainless steel tow hooks and hitch bling the H2's bum.
The Hummer rolls on Weld's 20-inch Daggers sheathed in LT355/60R20 Toyo A/T Open Country tires. A Fabtech lift kit adds six inches to better accommodate those wider Welds and PG's elevated attitude.
Under the hood, a MagnaCharger's H2 Radix supercharger kit blows horsepower and torque out of proportion. Robert doesn't have performance numbers for us, but the manufacturer says that its blower should boost horsepower by up to 125 percent. The exhaust system was upgraded with JBA ceramic headers and JBA 4-inch pipes.
Inside the H2, blue and black kitty cat skins from Katzkin upholster the Hummer's seats. That's black leather with perforated, suede, blue inserts. Audiobahn stacked the Hummer with sonic sickness. Two 12-inch AW1200Q subwoofers and two home-audio-styled A4X100HQ and A2X600HQ amplifiers erupt from the black 'glass enclosure that hogs half of the cargo area. Three of the H2's headrests beam video from 7-inch monitors, and a ceiling-mounted flip-down hangs from behind the sunroof. Clarion's ProAudio VRX935VD head unit sources audio and video to the rest of the H2's entertainment system. It's an AM/FM/CD/DVD audio/video machine with a 7-inch, motorized touchscreen monitor.
Precision Design spent the better part of two years turning wrenches on this '03 H2. The H2 finally made its soft launch at SEMA 2003 and debut at the '04 show as the company's premier vehicle to promo Precision Grille's powerful product lineup. No trailer queen here. The Hummer ate up the miles on our Havasu State 2 State Cruise, while appreciative onlookers ate up the view. Precision Design thanks Jeff Mersey at Merzee's Paint & Body, Simon at Traders 2000, MagnaCharger, Weld Racing, Toyo Tires, and Alsa Paints for their involvement in the project.
