Filling the niche of daily driver and show truck, Scoshe Industries built a 2005 GMC Canyon to showcase its new line of audio products in a package anyone can build. Custom paint, wheels, and tires with a complementing interior define a show truck, and this example from Oxnard, California, is a first-class archetype of good planning, proper execution, and great use of resources.
Nathan Perkins of Scoshe was provided with the truck and a budget to build over a three month period. What Nathan did was turn a boring stock midsizer into a reputable street machine with enough charisma to venture off-road if the event calls for it. Starting with wheels and tires, the crew at Scoshe installed 20-inch Akuza Bounce wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich 285/55R20 All Terrain tires. Behind those shiny wheels are the best brakes Stainless Steel Brakes has to offer. Fourteen-inch rotors are clamped by three piston calipers on each corner. Needing more power to make the larger wheels turn, Nathan contacted K&N Engineering and bolted on a cold air intake kit. Making sure the fury of air escapes the 3.5L I-5, Nathan also installed a stainless steel Corsa after-cat system. After the power and braking situation was handled, the team at Scoshe focused on making the GMC look good.
Delivering the truck to L&G Enterprises in San Dimas, California, Theresa masked off a two-tone paint scheme using black and red with a silver stripe to give the exterior bold character. After the paint dried, the truck was driven to Modern Image, where the Scoshe EFX logos were applied to the exterior. Nathan then drove to Precision Sound in Chino Hills, California, where the crew added a Street Scene Speed Grille, ARE lid, and color-matched Rhino Liner. While at Precision Sound, the interior received some attention in the form of charcoal suede being applied to the headliner, A and B pillars, and door panel armrests. Phoenix Imaging provided the cool dash treatment.
Inside is really where the Scoshe team got to have the most fun with the Canyon. Nathan installed a Clarion DVD head unit, a 15.3-inch drop-down monitor, and a set of EFX HDC675 component speakers. Bass is provided by a single EFX 12-inch subwoofer mounted in a custom enclosure. One EFX HD7004 amp pushes the mids and highs, whereas an EFX HD 5001 amp sends juice to the sub. Before any of the speakers and amps were installed, Nathan laid down several yards of Accumat sound-deadening material inside the entire truck. EFX twisted cables and RCAs supply the signals to each speaker and keep distortion to a minimum. Auto Meter voltage, amp temp, and amperage gauges keep vital signs at a glance.
Simple and to the point, the Scoshe Canyon is a doable custom for any enthusiast and shows what a little help from key people can do for a custom truck.
