Readers' Custom Trucks - Readers' Rides - May 2006
A Personal ThingFor Josh Hamaker of Houston, Texas, this '90 Chevy Silverado was more than just a present from his father. It meant the start of a journey to give the truck his own personal flavor. The first thing on Josh's list to personalize the truck was to give it an airbag suspension. Soon after came the wheels on his ride, with 18-inch Eagle Alloys wrapped in Yokohama rubber. For sound entertainment a JL Audio system was installed.
Just CleanRonny Schonerstedt's '00 Chevy Silverado is his pride and joy. With 18-inch wheels wrapped in Nitto rubber, the truck cruises his hometown of Waco, Texas. A K&N filter and a Hypertech programmer were installed to give the truck more power.
Dakota 4UThis '00 Dodge Dakota SLT belongs to Ross Bruce of New Orleans, Louisiana. To give his truck power under the hood, he installed an AIRAID intake along with a Jet Performance chip and a throttle-body spacer. The truck rides on 18-inch Maxim American Racing wheels wrapped in Toyo Proxes rubber.
With LoveRobert Turner of Ontario, California, had all the help and love he could get from his wife to start modifying his Chevy S-10. Robert first shaved the tailgate and welded on a steel roll pan. The truck was lowered 5 inches in the front and 6 inches in the rear. For his wife's entertainment while they take long road trips, he installed a 7-inch monitor with a DVD player. Future plans for him include upgrading the interior to an updated look.
LB RideThis '02 Chevy Silverado belongs to J.R. Stanley of Long Beach, California. For J.R., when he first purchased his truck, his mission of customizing his truck was halfway accomplished. The truck was lowered with a Belltech 2/3-drop kit, and 20-inch wheels wrapped in Goodyear rubber were installed. Power under the hood is a 5.3L V-8 equipped with a K&N cold air intake. For the body, J.R. installed a custom grille along with a SnugTop tonneau cover. Future plans include installing a supercharger and a Baer brake kit.
Dodge 'EmRobert Pankey's '01 Dodge Ram 1500 roams the streets of Avondale, Arizona, on 20-inch wheels wrapped in Goodyear rubber. Robert added a Flowmaster dual exhaust, and to give the front a different look he installed a billet grille. In the future he hopes to upgrade the body and the interior to give it more of a sporty look.
