2006 Readers' Rides No. 10 - Custom Trucks
Lubbock, Texas, native Travis Hiltbrunner's 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 sports a 408ci stroker built from a 5.9L Magnum block and a Mopar four-inch crank. That's not all, though. The truck's filled with gobs of performance parts that we don't have room to list, including ported heads, a Comp Cam, Wiseco pistons, and the crown jewel, an ATI Procharger.
Carlos Zavala from Santa Barbara, California, is the owner of this 2005 Chevy Colorado LS. A Fabtech three-inch suspension lift kit with 16-inch wheels and a Flowmaster exhaust system were the first additions, but future plans include three more inches of lift, bigger tires, and an upgraded stereo system.
Carl Veilleux is 18 years old and built this flat black S-10 entirely on his own. It rides 5 inches lower in front, with 2 inches from spindles and 3 inches from the coils. The rear was dropped with 3-inch lower leafs and 3-inch blocks. Smoothing out the truck is a fully shaved tailgate and roll pan, 20-inch wheels, blacked-out taillights, and clear front corners.
Ted Zagnoli's '05 F-150 rolls on 18-inch Mazzi wheels and gets a little extra performance from an Airaid intake and Magnaflow exhaust. In the styling department, billet upper and lower grilles and an Extang tonneau smooth things out. For the finishing touch, Chris Cruz Artistry of De Land, Florida, designed and painted the graphics that let Ted pick his truck out in a crowd.
This House of Kolor-flamed '05 SSR belongs to Bob and Barb Delia of Libertyville, Illinois. Under the flamed hood is a 425hp LS2 with a K&N intake and a Corsa exhaust system. Foose Spank 6 wheels fill the wheelwells to the tune of 20 inches up front and 22 inches out back.
Marcus Jenkins of San Augustine, Texas, cruises this '99 Tahoe that sports a Yukon grille shell with a billet grille, shaved door handles and taillights, a roll pan, and 24-inch Brabus Blades. A 2/3 drop and 2-inch cowl hood also help the Pespi-blue Bow Tie stand out.
Marine Corps Sgt. Marcos Dominguez bought this '04 Silverado after his first tour in Iraq and fitted it with a 10-inch Full Throttle lift, 38-inch Super Swampers, and 5.13 gears. To get all that tire rolling, the 5.3L was upgraded with a Hypertech programmer, K&N intake, and 3-inch Flowmaster exhaust.
