It's always everyone's desire to be the first to do something. Even in high school no one wanted to be picked last for dodgeball, or any other sport as far as that's concerned. Seriously, though...can you name the guy who finished second in the Tour de France the last few years? Well, being second is something that Shawn Marasco doesn't have to worry about anymore. Shawn set out to build the world's first chopped-top Colorado. And not only did he build the world's first chopped-top Colorado, he built it himself out of his small house garage in Orlando, Florida.

We first saw the Colorado in February at the Spring Break Nationals in Daytona, and it was a nice, clean, copper 'bagged Colorado that made it into the SBN show coverage in our November issue. We tried to no avail to find the owner to tell him about a drag session that night and didn't see it the rest of the weekend, so we forgot about it. One night while browsing the internet, we came across the "under construction" pictures of a two-tone chop-top Colorado, and after scrolling down through some of the photos, we noticed that it started as that same Colorado that was in Daytona. After seeing those photos, we had to see the truck in person, because it's hard to believe that it could go from simple to WOW in such a short time. Upon arriving in Orlando and meeting up with some friends, we rolled downtown to see the Colorado. At first sight, we weren't disappointed because when Shawn drove the Colorado into the Kwiki Mart parking lot, all of our jaws dropped. After a few minutes of talking, it finally hit us that this was indeed the same 'bagged Colorado from just a few short months before.
The craftsmanship on this Colorado absolutely has to be seen to be appreciated, and unfortunately, pictures barely do it justice. Shawn is definitely a die-hard mini-trucker and drives the Colorado every chance he gets. We can't wait to see what he comes up with next to top this project. In fact, he had been contemplating selling the truck, but with all the positive feedback he's gotten thus far, he is planning on holding onto it for a little longer and attending some more major shows to show off what he's accomplished. It's great to see a truck built by hand out of someone's small garage that was built the way the owner wanted it and not just to follow the norm. If you get a chance to see this truck in person, you definitely should, because even though this is the first, it might also be the last.
