Ultimate Fighter Mike "Quick" Swick
Pain inside the Octagon, is a the way of life for those who dare to enter. Dedicated superior warrior athletes, such as Mike "Quick" Swick, who is one of the top grapplers in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), know that it takes a commitment to endure the training and abuse from fighting. Mike was born and raised in Houston, Texas. He knew that, like fighting, trucks would be a part of his life.
During his youth, Mike was fascinated and mesmerized by the movie The Karate Kid. So much so, he took up Tae Kwon Do and other martial arts, which became more than just a hobby. At the age of 18, Mike possessed the skills associated with kickboxing, Thai boxing, mixed martial arts, and he was participating in amateur fights. A year later, he made his professional debut, defeating his opponent Victor Bell. The reality of having to pay bills was difficult when trying to break into the martial arts.
To prove himself mentally and physically, Mike worked security at a government construction sight in Moscow, Russia. While he was in Moscow, he trained with American fighters who were there for the Absolute Fighting wars. Mike also trained with the U.S. Marines. While in Russia, he got a serious life-threatening scare. He was diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation (AFib), meaning he had an irregular heartbeat or fast heartbeat. His heart rate would accelerate to 200 beats per minute, like an engine that is revved at a higher rpm than redline for a prolonged period of time, which could cause valve float, and contribute to snapping a valve spring, or worse--scattering internal parts.
Knowing he couldn't pursue his fighting career on medication, Mike had an operation to correct the problem. After the operation and physical rehabilitation, he ventured to Thailand for some intense training to get himself into top fighting shape. His first fight back inside The Octagon recorded a first round TKO over James Whitfield, which was followed by three more consecutive wins.
Mike was called upon by the UFC to compete in a new Spike TV reality show, called The Ultimate Fighter. The two winners of the competition would be rewarded with a six-figure contract with the biggest fight promotion in mixed martial arts. During the first two fights of the show, Swick won with a combined time of 42-seconds. His impressive desire to be victorious quickly drew attention from the UFC, which found room for the newly christened "Quick" Swick. As they say, the rest is history.
Mike Swick is a major threat to any opponent every time he steps into The Octagon.
Having his roots buried deep in Texas soil, Mike has always had a passion for pickup trucks. We were fortunate enough to capture his latest all-terrain assault vehicle on film. Mike's '01 Ford F-150 was transformed into a more aggressive on/off-road assault vehicle by Brian Doyen and Joe Conduff, at HOT Motorsports, in Santa Ana, California. A Pro Comp 6-inch lift kit was installed to increase the ride height and improve its performance ride quality. Up front, Brian utilized the factory coil springs with longer Pro Comp spindles and shocks. The rear suspension was elevated by inserting 4-inch blocks between the axle housing and rear leaf spring pack. A set of 20x9-1/2-inch chrome Giovanna Sette wheels were wrapped in Toyo Mud Terrain M/T tires sized 35x12.50R20.
The engine modifications were kept minimal, though Mike has ideas for some serious horsepower upgrades later. The factory 4.2L V-6 received a CGS Motorsports 2-3/4-inch exhaust and catalytic converter system.
The '01 Ford F-150 received a new look up front with the addition of a Street Scene Equipment bumper and Speed Grille, that is flanked by a pair of Matrix One-Piece projector headlights. A Street Scene smooth wiper cowl and mirrors were also installed to achieve that smooth and clean appearance. A Leer 700 series tonneau cover secures any valuables in the bed and contributes to a more aero package, increasing gas mileage. Joe at House of Tint created the vinyl Toe-To-Toe logos found on the extended cab rear side windows and designed the incredible airbrush, tribal painted graphics on the truck sides, that were sprayed by Patrick Guyton at his Blackbird Studio in Anaheim, California. Patrick specializes in insane custom motorcycle, automotive, off-road, boat, and airplane paint schemes. After Patrick sprayed down the real fire, the truck was sent over to Carsmetics in Lake Forest, California, for some final color sanding, then multiple layers of clear coat were added.
Opening the doors exposes the factory seats that were recovered at HOT Motorsports, with Roadwire covers of light gray leather with black suede inserts. The interior's dcor was given a major upgrade when it was highlighted with remarkable Zebrano gray wood grain accents in the dash and door panels done by myautoextras.com. A set of Ryno billet brakes, E-brake and accelerator pedal caps eliminate wear but add foot pedal bling.
The thunderous shockwave sound of pre-fight entertainment is headed up by a Pioneer AVIC-N1 head unit that directs the tunes through a Crossfire XP Series amp with Crossfire speakers and a Crossfire XPSeries 1000.1 class D amp that powers the two Crossfire 10-inch subwoofers. Brian at HOT Motorsports designed and built a custom center console to house the subwoofers.
Whenever Mike "Quick" Swick rolls up to an Ultimate Fight Championship bout, he is already intimidating his opponent with this mean-looking Ford.
