Built for GM to showcase the potential of aftermarket suppliers for the Chevy Colorado, this Crew Cab 4WD is ready for any terrain in its path. Sand-covered beaches, snow-laden back roads, or better yet: trails entrenched in mud. This purpose-built Chevy is able to navigate through it all. Designed and created by MBRP, the Canadian team wasted little effort in transforming the truck into a capable rig. The end result saw a low-buck midsize receive a total makeover.
Starting with a 4-inch Rancho suspension setup, the front was lifted using lift spindles, a two-piece crossmember, Rancho's exclusive Realift torsion key relocator system, and blocks in the rear. Getting the Colorado up in the air allowed the addition of 33x13.50R18 Pro Comp tires, which were mounted onto Pro Comp Sabre 612 wheels in chrome finish. The new stance gave the Chevy an aggressive appearance, but it needed some other body mods to bring it all together.
Delivering the truck to Mike and Wes Blakely, of Bracbridge Collision, the Colorado was prepped for paint. Before any pigments were applied, a Keystone Good Hood was bolted on. Akzo Nobel supplied the Sikkens paints, then Wes sprayed the Adriatic Blue and Arctic White over the body. Wes also performed the marbilized graphic separating the two hues. MBRP then stepped in and created the gnarly front light bar. Made out of 2-1/2-inch tubing, the front bar is a direct bolt-on piece to the factory Colorado bumper and contains two 8-inch stainless steel KC HiLiTes driving lights. Mounted directly to the bed, MBRP also bent up some 3-1/2-inch tubing for the top light bar housing five 6-inch KC HiLiTes auxiliary lights. Now the Colorado was looking the part, but missing any real grunt.
MBRP fixed that by bolting on one of its 2-1/2-inch mandrel-bent stainlees steel exhaust systems with 3-1/2-inch double-walled angle-cut exhaust tips. A JET performance chip and throttle-body spacer helped squeeze some ponies out of the 3.5L I-5. More air out requires more air in, so an Airaid intake fixed that problem.
Keeping with the beach theme, Seamline Interiors took care of the '70s-looking interior by adding the blue and white vinyl to the seats, while Bracbridge Collision painted several plastic pieces, and a Bed Rug was added in the bed to keep things protected.
It didn't take much to turn the stock Colorado into a real off-road contender, just some well-executed aftermarket bolt-ons and a solid platform to start with.
