Yes, you read the title right, this '96 Chevy Tahoe was totally transformed from a stock grocery-getter to a body-dropped audio powerhouse in a mere five weeks. Jeff Lewis knew that Lay'd Out at the Park had a category for Best Vehicle Debut, and that he had a long way to go if he wanted to take the trophy home. With the help of his family and several trusted friends, he made it happen.

Even though the show was looming, Jeff knew that a stock-floor body drop was a surefire way to take home the trophy. Green House Customs in Sevierville, Tennessee, got to work cutting down the stock frame and reinforcing it with 2x3-inch, 1/4-inch-wall tubing. The front suspension was fitted with 2-inch drop spindles, Airlift Dominator d2600 'bags, and Airlift valves that are fueled by Air Zenith compressors. The rear got the same Airlift treatment, but on a Suicide Doors four-link. The product of all of the fabrication was a bottomed-out rocker on 24-inch Rozzi Switch wheels and 255/30R24 Lexani tires. After Green House Customs wrapped up the suspension, Shon Reece, of Diverse Customs in Greenville, South Carolina, picked up the project and got to work with their MIG welders. The roof rack, door handles, gas door, and taillights were all sent packing. In their place, Cadillac taillights were welded in place, along with a Grant Kustoms roll pan. Shon picked up his spray gun and immersed the Tahoe's sheetmetal in PPG silver and charcoal two-tone with a Vibrance Red divider. Airbrush in hand, Shon worked his way around the Tahoe, adding airbrushed representations of the tools that helped make the project come together, including wrenches, saw blades, and even a Kinetik power cell.
Speaking of which, the four Kinetik power cells get a workout thanks to a rear cargo area that's been populated by a dozen RE Audio 10-inch subs. The subs are mounted in an intricate fiberglass enclosure built by Daniel Whaley and are powered by three US MD2D amps. Four RE Audio coaxials handle the midrange and are powered by a US MD42 four-channel amp. Jeff's very own Hard Luck Customs was responsible for much of the audio wiring that also includes a Panasonic DVD head unit. We can't mention the audio without also mentioning the interior in which it's displayed. David Corn from Pro Stitch in Knoxville, Tennessee, wrapped the trimmed-down factory seats in gray Allante, charcoal suede, and red alligator-textured upholstery. The same material was used on the billet Half-Wrap steering wheel from Billet Specialties as well as the door panels.
