R.J. Silva, owner of Eye Kandy Designs in Las Vegas, isn't a stranger to the world of custom vehicle designs. He's professionally drawn renderings for some amazing looking vehicles over the years and has even helped us with our own in-house projects. So when the opportunity presented itself for him to acquire a project truck that he would be able to build up from almost scratch, he couldn't pass it up.

After buying the '91 Chevy C1500 in early 2006, R.J. began the long-drawn-out process of building a fully customized truck. He started with a boxed and dropped custom frame. From there he had it smoothed and painted to match the body. The front end rides on chromed, tubular A-arms from KRZ Customs. Slam Specialties airbags let the body rest on terra firma and 20-inch Image Alloy wheels enveloped in Hankook rubber round out the front. The rear rides on an IF Customs' two-link suspension that was chromed out to match everything else on the truck. Out back, Firestone 2500 'bags tuck the 22-inch Image Alloys nicely into the fenders. While a custom air tank, battery rack, and compressor mount sits nicely between the boxed framerails behind the axle to add a finishing touch to the rear end. It would seem that every inch of this beauty has been painted, chromed, or powdercoated to match the color of the body.
The 4.3L V-6 crate engine was installed by R.J. in his garage, and it has also been chromed out to the max. The pieces that couldn't be removed for chroming or powdercoating have been painted to match the rest of the truck. From the billet oval air filter to the chrome oil pan, this engine is as iced out as the truck in which it is housed.

The body of this sexy beast is as smooth as it is frosty. The hood, grille shell, fenders, and headlights have all been swapped out for those from a '99 Cadillac Escalade. The sectioned and smoothed grille is from IF Customs and truly transforms the front end into an elegant custom. Of course the door handles, tailgate handle, gas door, and bumper have been shaved in favor of a roll pan. The cab seams, stake bed holes, antenna, and wiper cowl have also been smoothed. The doors are opened with AVS door poppers. AVS taillights are also installed in the tailgate behind the paint to add just another custom touch. Musso Motorsports in Las Vegas did all the bodywork. The body is drenched in '99 Jaguar Green paint with custom tailgate logos done by Ryan Evans of Kaotic in Las Vegas.
The audio is the only thing that isn't chromed out in this truck, but it doesn't have to be because the beats that it bumps will make your eyes turn off and your ears turn on. The Pioneer DVH P5000 DVD/CD head unit is the backbone of the system. This is followed up with Polk Momo C500.1 and C400.4 amplifiers while two 12-inch Polk Audio subs provide the beat. Polk 6-inch mids are in each door and for the highs R.J. used a pair of Polk tweeters in each door. The awesome guys at Platinum Audio in Las Vegas provided all the Scosche wiring.

The interior is flawless in this work of art. The centerpiece is a custom-molded fiberglass center console that houses the two subs. The NRC Smoothie billet steering wheel adds to the custom look and allows a nice view of the Dakota Digital dash cluster. The door panels are also smoothed and painted to match the exterior of the truck with custom fiberglass panels that house the mids and tweeters. Every part of this truck just begs for attention.
With too many shows attended and awards won, this masterpiece of a truck is obviously well-liked among the custom truck community. When asked how much money has been invested into this truck R.J. simply said, "didn't keep track." It's probably better that R.J. doesn't know how much money has been put into "Ice Cold" as it is affectionately known, but true custom truck lovers will tell you that money isn't an object when it comes to building a modern art pièce de résistance.
