Think back to the red unibody Silverado that was on the cover of Issue #12 of 2010. Despite the fact that it is roadworthy and street-legal, there's just no way that the guys at Anderson Brothers Auto Body, in West Sacramento, California, were going to risk damaging it when taking it to shows across California, Arizona, and Nevada. What's an auto body shop to do but build a tow rig worthy of hauling such a custom creation.

To contrast the 'bagged Chevy, Troy Anderson decided a lifted GMC would be the route to take. Starting with an '05 Sierra 2500 equipped with a Duramax diesel and Allison transmission, Troy let Fab It Customs install a 12-inch Whiplash suspension system with 22x10-inch KMC XD Diesel wheels wrapped in 37x13.50 Toyo Open Country M/T tires. Deaver springs in the rear and Bilstien shocks all around help for a smooth ride, while 4.10 gears and a few performance modifications offset the added diameter and mass of the wheels and tires, including a MagnaFlow exhaust, Airaid intake, and Edge Juice programmer.
Back at the Anderson Bros. shop, the crew shaved the tailgate handle, welded in a roll pan, and prepped the body, as well as a set of Escalade door handles, for paint. The Anderson Brothers sprayed the Sikkens red and white, but the graphics were the work of Anthony Armaz, who added some fine flake to the silver flames separating the red and white before pinstriping the edges of each lick of flame, as well as embellishing the tailgate and hood with traditional-style pinstripe graphics. The final additions were a billet GMC emblem, Street Scene Speed Grille insert, and a set of custom-fabricated pre-runner-style bumpers complete with Pro Comp lights.

Paintwork continues into the interior although on a much more subtle scale. The dash bezel and several pieces of door trim were painted a dark charcoal, and custom speaker pods were fabricated to house the Arc Audio components, two sets per door. Arc Audio amps were mounted under the rear seat, while Pioneer subwoofers were mounted stealthily behind the rear seats in an enclosure fabricated by Dave Fonts in Sacramento. The enclosure was wrapped in vinyl that so closely matches the interior color and texture that you'd swear it came in the truck from the factory.
With a bold paint scheme and custom touches throughout, Troy's Sierra is the perfect counterpoint to the 'bagged Silverado that it tows across the West. The truck has no problem hauling the show truck safely inside an enclosed trailer, holds its own when parked next to it at shows, and still functions flawlessly as a daily driver.
