Joe Montrella lives in Radnor, Pennsylvania, which is so far east in the state that it’s almost in New Jersey. Mapquest can show you that it’s a suburb of Philadelphia, but it won’t tell you what kind of vehicles the locals drive in the township that was once thought of as a country retreat. We feel pretty confident in saying that there couldn’t be more than one or two nice custom trucks in the ’hood. And we are pretty positive there are very few (if any) custom truck shops that understand what a guy like Joe is looking for in a lifted, custom truck.

That’s probably why Joe sent his ’08 Ford F-250 out to McAllen, Texas, to let Marty Garza and the crew at Truck Toyz Performance do what they do best. Truck Toyz has a reputation of building some of the nicest trucks in the country, and Joe was determined to get this one right. The engine, which is completely loaded up with hot parts (see sidebar), was the work of Pueblo West, Colorado’s Elite Diesel Engineering. Again, Joe sent the truck to a place he could trust to do outstanding work with the best parts. The tune is spot-on now, thanks to Innovative Diesel Performance in Elkton, Maryland.

The story here is that Joe Montrella knew what he wanted and had to find a way to get it. He didn’t let anything get in his way—he simply made it happen. At Rudy’s Diesel Performance dyno day in March, the truck put out 730 rwhp (which climbed to 1,010 when the nitrous was applied) and 1,286 lb-ft of torque. The 6.4L Power Stroke engine has Elite Diesel Max Power compound turbos with an external wastegate, intake blow-off valve, nitrous, and more. An Elite Diesel 5R110 TorqShift transmission from Sun Coast is used to handle all the power.

This kind of serious performance can’t be mated to a spindly suspension, so Joe selected a complete One Up Offroad (OUO) system, installed by Truck Toyz. The suspension uses rear trailing links and coilover shocks on all four corners. KMC XD Monster wheels (22-inch) pair with 40-inch Toyo Open Country M/T tires for the perfect look. Modena Autowerks in Houston, Texas, applied the custom paint and ghost flames.
