Building show trucks is one of Dave Smithley's passions. The Norco, California, resident owns a shop called 51Fifty Kreationz, where he is constantly modifying vehicles for other people. When it came time to get a new daily driver, Dave wanted it to be a good representation of his company. Right before the build of his truck started, however, Dave wound up breaking his back. That didn't stop him. If anything, it made him want it even more. Building virtually the whole truck with a broken back is dedication unlike any other.
Dave wanted to build a show truck that doubled as a daily driver, so functionality was a top priority. Dave started by taking the truck to his friend's shop, Seven Saturdays Motorsports in Buena Park, California. Without delay, the truck was sitting atop a Cognito 12-inch lift kit that had been powdercoated blue to match the future paint scheme of the truck. After bolting the wheels and tires onto the corners, the next hurdle to tackle was the engine.
Photo 3/9   |   Jose "Spine" Villegas did a great job airbrushing the leopard print. Dave said, “It looks so much like the real thing, it is almost like hair instead of paint.”
Wanting the truck to have all the power he could ever need, Dave contacted ATS Diesel and ordered just about everything they made for the 6.6L Duramax, including an intake, 75mm turbo, torque converter, Co-Pilot trans controller, and transmission and diff covers. With the performance side of things handled, Dave ran into yet another roadblock. His best friend's wife of 15 years passed away. Dave decided to put the Silverado on the back burner and be at his friend's side.
Once Dave returned to the build, he started on the body. In order to make this Bow Tie stand out from the rest of the lifted HDs out there, Dave had it painted with four different graphics. The upper portion is a PPG Candy Blue, on top of that they painted real-fire flames. On the bottom is a realistic cheetah print design. Separating the two colors is a green tribal graphic. The front of the truck was filled with Street Scene speed grille inserts and a front bumper fascia. Finally, Dave could move on to the interior.

To make driving in the truck as nice as sitting in a luxurious recliner, Dave swapped out the factory seat covers with Katzkin leather and suede seat covers. The audio consists of a Pioneer head unit feeding Alpine amps, Phoenix Gold speakers, and JL Audio subwoofers. Other mods to the interior include painted plastics, U.S. Speedo gauge overlay, and a suede headliner.
Dave wanted to thank the sponsors on the truck including Seven Saturdays Motorsports, ATS Diesel, FASS Fuel Systems, Cognito Motorsports, Toyo Tires, Kinetik Batteries, Street Scene, Edge Products, Katzkin, and AMP Research.
