Once in a blue moon, we'll partner up with a truck owner or shop and follow along with a truck project. When David Edelman picked up a mint 2008 Tundra and started looking for a build theme, we instantly suggested creating the first-ever Toyota to compete in THROWDOWN, presented by Airaid. He agreed, and once TRD found out that Toyota was going to be represented, they wanted in on the action as well. To make the 5.7L-equipped Tundra fast, a TRD supercharger adds more than 130 rwhp, while the MagnaFlow exhaust gives it a muscle truck tone. Having little racing experience, David stayed true to his word and competed as best as he could in the TRD-prepped Tundra. Off-the-line traction was limited as the boost surged the torque to levels the tires couldn't handle, but the truck still ran strong in each event. Tundras are heavy, there's no two ways around it, and we're certain with a few hundred pounds shaved off, the times would have been better in each category. David's truck is a perfect example of using off-the-shelf parts that anyone can buy, install, and then enjoy for years to come. David himself is also a great example of trying something new and having a blast doing it.
