Losing a family member is always difficult, especially when it is one of your parents. When Jose Chavez of Baldwin Park, California, lost his father, it was devastating. To help him cope with the loss, Jose continued to work on the 2004 Chevy Silverado that he and his dad had been working on. His goal was to finish the project and have something that his dad would have been proud of.
Jose wanted something totally different than the status quo, so he called up Kevin at Sik Fabrications in Corona, California. After speaking with Kevin, the idea was to build a suspension that would lay frame on 30-inch wheels. With that plan in mind, the body and frame were separated and the frame was scrapped in favor of a fully built replacement. With the frame built, powdercoated, and hard lined, the new suspension could be installed. This consisted of custom, tubular control arms, custom spindles, and Slam Specialties SS-6 'bags. To give the rear a matching stance, a wishboned four-link was fabricated and bolted on. Matching SS-6 'bags give it adjustability, while Viair 480C compressors keep the tanks filled with air. Finally, a massive set of 30-inch Asanti AF143 wheels were shod in Hankook 315/30R30 rubber and bolted on. The next step was to make sure the body was as custom as the chassis.

Without missing a beat, Sik Fabrication went to work on the body of Jose's truck. They started by welding the bed to the cab, creating a unibody out of the Silverado. Rather than leaving the cat-eye front end, a 2010 Tahoe clip was cut up to fit the Bow Tie's cab. Next, the bed floor was cut out and a sheetmetal bed was built with tubs big enough to fit the massive rollers. A cutout in the bed ensures the suspension is constantly on display. The last step was to suicide the doors, forward tilt the hood, and shave the handles, stake bed holes, gas filler door, and a number of other unnecessary parts. With the body mods handled, the body went to Danny D Pinstriping and Paint also in Baldwin Park. Danny first laid down a basecoat of House of Kolor Violet to use as the backdrop for the insane graphics that were to be applied. With all of the intricate lines, graphics, bubbles, and silverleaf applied, Danny sealed them in with several coats of clear to protect his work of art.
Back at Sik Fabrications, the body and frame could be mated, but not before a new engine and trans were bolted to the frame. Jose wanted more power to help turn the 37-inch-tall tires. For this, he swapped in a 5.7L LS1 with a set of Gibson headers and a full exhaust for a nice rumble when the throttle is smashed. He also had a sheetmetal engine cover built and paint-matched along with a custom set of coil pack covers. Ensuring that the engine has enough juice are four Kinetik power cells, while a Mattson's one-off radiator keeps the temperatures down. Lastly, attention could be turned towards the interior to really set this truck apart from the rest.

The first thing was to strip the interior and start from scratch. The seats were chopped down and reshaped before being wrapped in peanut butter leather with stingray inserts. For maximum utilization of the space in the regular cab, a sheetmetal sub enclosure was built that also serves as the center console. This houses three 13-inch JL Audio W7 subwoofers, four Focal 6x9-inch speakers, three 7-inch screens, and an Xbox 360 console. The rest of the audio consists of four more Focal 6x9-inch speakers and six Focal 6½-inch speakers in the doors. The dash was smoothed and painted to match the exterior, while the door panels, lower dash, Billet Specialties steering wheel, and several other pieces were wrapped in the same leather and stingray that is on the seats. The final touch on the interior was a 17-inch screen molded into the dash. As long as Jose doesn't play Xbox on it while driving, there shouldn't be a problem.
The last step for Jose was to just sit back and enjoy the attention the truck brings him. He wanted to send a shout-out to all of the shops that helped on the build, as well as his sponsors, friends, family, and fellow Nokturnal members.
