November 2013 Industrial Power - OshKosh Striker

Full-Force Emergency Response

Jason GondermanOct 2, 2013
Fire is bad. Fire on an airstrip is really bad. When there is an emergency at an airport, every second is critical—and there is no room for error. For this reason, when it comes to choosing emergency response vehicles, there is no question why more and more international airports are choosing the Oshkosh Striker for their firefighting needs. Thanks to their innovative fire suppression technology, unmatched chassis performance, and incredible reliability, Strikers are currently deployed in more than 70 countries worldwide.
"Strikers are currently deployed in more than 70 countries worldwide."
The Striker lineup features three models: the 1500, 3000, and 4500. Model designation is derived from the amount of water, in gallons, the vehicles are able to carry onboard. Each Striker is equipped with the same firefighting tools and equipment, and TAK-4 modular suspension systems. At the small end of the fleet, the Striker 1500 is equipped as a 4x4, with a single TAK-4 suspension module at each end. The 3000 is configured as a 6x6, with dual driving rear modules, and a single driven steering module in front. Rounding out the fleet, the Striker 4500, which is the largest—and capable of carrying 4,500 gallons of water onboard—is delivered in an 8x8 arrangement, with two driven TAK-4 modules at the rear, and two driven steering modules up front. Both the Striker 1500 and 3000 come standard with a Caterpillar C-16 engine and Allison 4800 transmission, while the 4500 is equipped with a larger Caterpillar C-18 and Twin Disc TD61 transmission.
