Every Man's Dream Just Became a Reality

Growing up, every little boy had toys come and go. But one toy that just about every boy remembers playing with for years was the old school, all-metal Tonka trucks. They were high-quality built out of metal and hauled everything from loads of dirt to the neighbor girl's My Little Pony dolls. Now all grown up, those same boys are still out in the yard playing with their toys. The difference is the toys now cost a lot more and break more often. Just imagine being able to go out and wrench on a fullsize Tonka truck. Well Funrise, the officially licensed manufacturer of Tonka, has brought that dream a little closer to reality.
To start the build of a "grown-up's" Tonka truck, Funrise went out and bought a brand-new 2013 Ford F-250 Super Duty. Obviously, the stock suspension had to go. To replace it, Tim Nicolau Designs added a Kelderman 8-10-inch four-link air suspension system to the undercarriage. This would ensure that no matter what is hauled around, the bed would stay level. To bring the Tonka touch to the black suspension components, many of them were powdercoated Tonka Yellow. An Accuair air management system controls the air suspension with the push of a button. Bump relief is provided by a quadruplet of Fox remote-reservoir shocks in combination with the airbags. Wrapping up the chassis is a massive set of Toyo Open Country M/T tires draped around 20-inch American Force wheels.

With all that extra rolling mass, the 6.7L diesel engine needed some enhancements to bump the power up. This required taking the truck to Banks Power, in Azusa, California. Banks installed a Ram-Air intake for increased breathability and a 4-inch Monster exhaust. They also added their Double Shot high-output water/methanol system. To unleash the full potential of the Power Stroke, a Banks AutoMind programmer was installed, adding 151 hp and 241 lb-ft of torque. Controlling all of these systems and giving the driver a better view of the engine vitals is a Banks iQ 2.0, which does just about anything you can think of.
To make the body as rough and tough as the old-school Tonka trucks were, a Fab Fours front bumper with grille guard was installed along with a matching rear bumper. A Warn winch is mounted in the front bumper in case the need arises to pull lesser trucks out of precarious situations. Assisting passengers into the cab of the monstrous Super Duty is a set of Fab Fours side steps. After searching around for the perfect ladder rack, Funrise contacted Highway Products who made them a custom lumber rack with toolboxes incorporated. The bed also features a Bedslide capable of holding 1,000 pounds of cargo. To make the truck really stand out, Funrise had Galpin Auto Sports (G.A.S.) design and wrap the truck in Tonka Yellow with black graphics.
With the truck completed, Funrise had accomplished what they set out to do: build a life-sized Tonka truck. They wanted to thank all the sponsors on the build and everyone who came together to help make this dream become a reality.

"You can’t claim this truck isn't pushed hard. It took no prodding at all for the team to do some high-speed passes on the OHV trail."
