Some of you may have been told, "you hit like a girl" or "you run like a girl", but what about "you build a minitruck like a girl"? Chances are you've never heard such a thing, but Jennifer Reynolds may have just coined the phrase with her take on Nissan's '98 Frontier. Having grown up spending a lot of time in her dad's shop, Jennifer learned a lot about vehicles at a young age. He ran a repo business and Jen saw her share of different vehicles on a daily basis. With so much exposure to the wide world of automotive transportation, she naturally gravitated towards making friends with other car people in high school. One of the guys she hung around with named Cody, only helped fuel her passion for all things custom, and like a match made in grease monkey heaven, they later got married and started projects of their own.
Through the years, this couple has turned out a couple sweet rides together—a '93 Mighty Max and a '01 Frontier but as we all learn, we are never completely satisfied with what we have. We always want to build that something special, so that's exactly what they set out to do. Jen and her husband were in the process of building a frame for her old Frontier when a fellow club member, Kenny Richard, called them up with a lead for a great deal on a parts truck. It was a ‘bagged and bodied '98 Frontier that was running and driving but supposedly needed a lot of work. Needing a good parts truck, they looked deeper into making the purchase. The seller drove the truck from Minnesota to Dallas to with a price tag of $6,500 attached to it but the truck wasn't even close to living up to their expectations of it. The guy was running low on time as he had a flight home to catch, so he eventually agreed on letting it go for $500 just to get rid of it.

Jen and her crew started tearing through the truck to size up what they had just purchased. As it turned out, the truck was in much better shape and further along than her '01 Frontier, so they decided to make this truck the new project and leave the other one for another day. It didn't take much to fix a few things and make the project her own. The independent rear that was previously installed wasn't at what she wanted at all, so it was scrapped for a Chevy rearend, which had to be chopped down a full 20 inches to get those big billet wheels set in their proper place. Once the Nissan's rear suspension was up to par, the rest of it was inspected to make the truck as reliable as it looked. With a solid foundation finally completed, Jen's Nissan was sent down to renowned paint slinger Patrick Reid to work his magic and then to Accent Upholstery in Beaumont, TX to stitch up the interior. The only catch to this somewhat straightforward build was that Jennifer wasn't allowed to see what would be done her truck. It was brought over to these guys to let them collaborate on their own and just do what they do … build cover-worthy masterpieces.

The only thing Jen knew about what was happening with her truck was that it was going to be purple and have lots of graphics. She gave the team a few thoughts and insights, and the guys took off with the inspiration they got from her. Patrick put down an attention grabbing shade of purple and then went to town laying down all the graphics to help make this truck really stand out. To tie in some of Jen's personality to his artwork, he included a ton of hidden ninja-related items throughout the graphics. Ninja? Yeah, well, the story is that Jen develops ninja-like skills when she drinks, so that ultimately became the underlying theme of the build.
As the truck was closer to being finished, she finally got to take a peek at what had been going on. She walked into the shop only to find her truck in pieces spread out all over the place. It was hard to tell what was what. The plan was to debut the truck at Third Coast Nationals, so she had a few more days to impatiently wait to see the finished product. Jen was extremely nervous that she wasn't going to like it. She knew what she thought it might look like but after seeing the truck like that, she didn't know what to think.

The day finally came—she and Cody made their way to the show but her truck wasn't there yet. They walked around the grounds and looked at all of the other rides on display. Nothing seemed to take her attention away from the front gate, because at any minute she knew her Frontier would come rolling through. And just then, it did. It was more than she could've ever imagined it would be. It was low, purple, and had amazing graphics! It was perfect.
When finishing up the interview for this story, Jen was asked who she looks up to in the scene. She replied, "I think it would have to be all the females in the scene building trucks. It's not really a woman's world, but it's always good to see a girl with a nice ride who is really into the minitruckin lifestyle." She can now serve as the same type of inspiration to other females looking to build a truck of their own. It's not just a man's world in the show scene. Be prepared guys, because now we all know what happens when you build a minitruck like a girl—pure ninja awesomeness.
